The Grove remembers.
Florida Colors Nursery began in 1976 with hibiscus and tropical ornamentals. When Carol and Luc Vannoorbeeck later planted the Grove, they created more than a plumeria nursery. They created a living reference collection where original trees, parent plants, and named cultivars could be observed across decades.
Today, Tex and Kay Norwood continue that work by growing, documenting, teaching, and preserving the identity and stories of plumeria.
Five decades of Florida Colors
From tropical nursery to plumeria authority.
1976
Luc and Carol establish the nursery, initially growing hibiscus and tropical ornamentals.
Late 1980s
A hibiscus pest crisis encourages a new focus on collecting and propagating plumeria.
1992
Hurricane Andrew brings devastation and a decisive commitment to rebuilding around plumeria.
1993
Major Hawaiian acquisitions expand the collection, and the Grove becomes a living reference.
2012
Tex and Kay Norwood join Florida Colors and help extend its cultivation, documentation, and education work.
2026
Florida Colors Nursery celebrates its 50th anniversary and five decades of tropical horticulture.
